European Topic Centre Urban, Land and Soil Systems – Urban assessments (ETC ULS)
The environmental dimension of urban living is crucial for the health and well-being of their residents as well as the quality of the surrounding territories. Consequently, there is a range of existing challenges for cities and their surroundings not only regarding the availability of resources and the quality of the urban environment, but also concerning biodiversity in cities.
space4environment supported and still supports the EEA on the one hand in developing methods and approaches to map and assess urban adaptation to climate change (published as EEA Report No. 2/2012), create an environmental city typology, environmental/socio-economical characterisation (ETC/ULS Report 03/2018) and map green urban areas in and around cities; and on the other hand in networking activities with European institutions and stakeholders via the Integrated Urban Monitoring in Europe (IUME) network.
Visit the ETC/ULS website where you can find in addition to EEA publications ETC/ULS reports and web map viewers.
