Green Infrastructure

European Topic Centre Urban Land and Soil Systems (ETC ULS) - Green Infrastructure

In the European Commission communication Green Infrastructure – Enhancing Europe's Natural Capital, green infrastructure (GI) is described as a tool for providing ecological, economic and social benefits through natural solutions, helping to understand the advantages nature offers human society and to mobilise investments that sustain and enhance these benefits.

space4environment has supported the EEA in assessing the concept of GI and its integration in territorial cohesion policies (published as EEA Technical Report No. 18/2011) and lately in the methodological development of spatial mapping approaches of potential Green Infrastructure networks (published as EEA Technical Report No. 02/2014).
