Land Use Map 2018 for Luxembourg -
s4e provides an update of the land use map for the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg
The land use 2018 project had the objective to update land use information based on aerial images, Light Detection and Ranging (LiDAR) data and other ancillary GIS data for the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg.
The major component of the project was to produce an up-to-date land use map of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg for 2018 with MMU equal to 100 m² for settlement areas and transport, and 500 m² for the remaining LU classes. The map has 46 classes in level 3, grouped in six thematic groups: settlement, agriculture, forest, natural surfaces, water and transport. We tested the importance of using 3D topographical data obtained based on LiDAR to obtain high quality information on forest management, namely in detecting clear cuts and young forest stands. In addition a change layer indicating all spots with LU change between 2015 and 2018 was generated. The project is a follow-up of the land information system Luxembourg (LIS-L) project aiming at mapping land cover (LC) and land use (LU) in Luxembourg for 2015.
