Facets of s4e biodiversity work

One of the many facets of the work performed by the team behind space4environment is the management and processing of pan-European data on biological diversity and species distribution. Countries participating in or cooperating with the EEA have to follow predefined workflows and fulfil required data reportings. To ensure the countries are following these workflows the "Eionet core data flows" evaluate the completion of all required data flows to be carried out. As part of the European Topic Centre on Biological Diversity (ETC/BD) one task space4environment is responsible for is to assess the quality of data reported on species distribution (Art. 12 & 17) and national designated areas (Nationally Designated Areas Inventory on national protected sites, formerly CDDA). The performance of the countries with regard to these data flows of which the assessment is one significant part is currently presented in the EEA concluding report on the Eionet core data flows 2016.

Further contributions of space4environment to the work done in the ETC/BD like the preparation of the upcoming Art. 12/17 reporting and the processing of environmental/biological indicators such as the SEBI indicators are described in the current newsletter of the European Topic Centre on Biological Diversity which can be found here.
