Update of land cover data for Luxembourg -
s4e provides update of OBS Luxembourg
The ESA funded LIS-L project (Land Information System for Luxembourg) has been successfully finalised and delivered an update of the national land cover data for the reference year of 2015. For the first time land cover and land use have been mapped separately as two distinct data sets with newly agreed nomenclatures. This two-level approach has a prominent added-value regarding the monitoring of certain land systems issues, including for example the level of impermeabilization of soil and the greening of agricultural areas.
A translation matrix has been defined to allow a backwards compatibility with the previous OBS data from 2007 in order to derive change information.
As a second deliverable the project developed a database and an information system which allows to query the available data.
A draft version of the map viewer and the online query interface to explore the new land cover and land use is available here: https://lisl.list.lu/
Feedback to the viewing tool as well as the query interface is welcome as both should further developed.
