Last week, part of the space4environment team had the privilege of attending ESA’s Living Planet Symposium 2025 in Vienna, where we proudly showcased two of our ongoing projects. Our contributions highlighted how satellite data and big data technologies can support biodiversity monitoring and environmental policy across Europe.
In various sessions, poster presentations, and networking events, we demonstrated how Earth Observation and structured data cubes can play a key role in environmental conservation—from European-scale assessments to local management applications.
📌 EU Grassland Watch
In the session “A Modular and Operational Satellite-based Monitoring Service to Support the EU Biodiversity Policy”, our colleague Stefan Kleeschulte shared the vision and methodology behind the EU Grassland Watch project. This initiative aims to support EU biodiversity policy through targeted satellite-based monitoring. You can follow the project’s progress via our LinkedIn page.

📌 FAIRiCUBE Hub – Green Deal Data Space
In another session titled “Three Years of Experience Developing the Green Deal Data Space in EuroGEO”, Maria Ricci presented our work on the FAIRiCUBE Hub—an innovative platform transforming fragmented datasets into structured, interoperable data cubes. The talk covered key insights into data harmonization, FAIR principles, and the challenges and lessons learned along the way.
It was inspiring to connect with so many partners, colleagues, and experts, exchanging ideas on how Earth Observation and data science can drive sustainability and support the European Green Deal.
A heartfelt thank you to the European Space Agency and all collaborators for the fruitful discussions, shared knowledge, and continued partnership.
